Πως και γιατί η Δημόσια Υγεία από Κοινωνικό Αγαθό, μετατρέπεται σε υποκείμενο των κανόνων της Αγοράς και λάφυρο σε παιχνίδια εξουσίας.
Η ύποπτη (;) διασύνδεση μεταξύ Επιστήμης, Οικονομικών και Εξωτερικών Υποθέσεων.
Το χάσμα μεταξύ Προσφοράς και Ζήτησης, για ένα Δημόσιο Αγαθό που θα έπρεπε να διασφαλίζεται για όλους.
Οι επιχειρήσεις της Wall Street, παρέλαβαν τα εμβόλια πριν από τα νοσοκομεία.

Οι υγειονομικές και γενικότερα οι κυβερνητικές αρχές (δείτε εδώ), δεν έχουν καταφέρει ακόμη να κάμψουν τη διστακτικότητα της κοινωνίας και τη δυσπιστία των πολιτών, σχετικά με την ασφάλεια των μέτρων αντιμετώπισης (εμβόλια, αντιικά κ.ά.). New York Businesses Get H1N1 Vaccine
Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, and other large city employers have started receiving small quantities of swine flu vaccine for high-risk employees

To the list of hundreds of schools, hospitals, and community health centers that have received limited allocations of the H1N1 swine flu vaccine, you can now add some of New York's largest employers. In the past week or so 13 companies, including Citigroup (C) and Goldman Sachs (GS), have begun receiving small quantities of the vaccine, according to city health authorities.
Citigroup has been supplied with 1,200 units and Goldman with 200, says Jessica Scaperotti, press secretary for the Department of Health & Mental Hygiene. The agency has so far approved orders by 29 employers—including 16 that have yet to receive any vaccine—after they were cleared by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC). Big employers that have received or are scheduled to receive vaccine so far include Time Warner (TWX), JPMorgan Chase (JPM), Memorial Sloan-Kettering, New York Presbyterian Healthcare System, and New York University.

Goldman Sachs Received H1N1 Vaccine Before Several Hospitals (GS)

We've been trying to figure out what, if any, preparations Wall Street has been taking to guard against H1N1.
For the most part, the banks have been coy about their activities.
But as noted on The Today Show this morning, several banks have been among the early recipients of H1N1 vaccine, allowing them to get ahead of hospitals in some instances.
The story was originally broken by BusinessWeek this week.
Goldman Sachs (GS) has received 200 doses in total -- the exact same as Lennox Hill hospital.
Health officials say corporate partners are always part of the distribution of any vaccine.
There's no allegation that they broke any rules, and we're still not quite sure what the whole story is -- mainly it looks like another PR snafu for Wall Street. Some are suggesting that, perhaps, the banks should have donated their allocated vaccines.
In defense of the banks, we all benefit when others are vaccinated. It's a positive, not zero-sum game.
Update: To be clear, Goldman confirms that all these decisions are made by the CDC, and that the vaccine only goes to specified high-risk individuals. In addition, as noted by the above BusinessWeek report, 29 companies including Time Warner and others have also been slected as vaccine distribution.

CFR Recording Suggests Creating False Scarcity To Drive Up Demand For H1N1 Vaccine

A recording of a recent Council On Foreign Relations symposium reveals attendees discussing ways and means of getting the public to take the H1N1 flu vaccine in spite of the mass resistance that has arisen due to questions over it’s safety.

The recording dates from October 16 when the CFR held a Symposium in New York entitled Pandemic Influenza: Science, Economics, and Foreign Policy.

The meeting was held in order to encourage a consensus for policy to present to the federal government concerning the so called swine flu pandemic.

In attendance were professors and doctors from several influential universities and medical schools, along with media representatives from Science Magazine, The Canadian Press and The Financial Times.

On August 24, 2009 the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) released its “Report to the President on U.S. Preparations for 2009-H1N1 Influenza,” predicting, among other things, that the H1N1 (aka “swine flu”) pandemic would resurge in North America in September, peaking by mid-October, causing infection and illness to up to half the U.S. population before the end of 2009. The PCAST assessment also suggested that H1N1 vaccines would not be available for the general public until well after the mid-October peak, and the epidemic would surge so rapidly that it could overwhelm hospitals, medical supplies and intensive care units, leading to as many as 90,000 deaths in the U.S. The predicted surge held special significance for schools, parents and employers, as sick-outs and school closures could impact productivity. Despite months of preparation, supplies of vaccines, medicines and protective gear were expected to be inadequate, and global competition for essential tools for pandemic control and treatment would be fierce. One billion doses of H1N1 vaccine were ordered from several pharmaceutical companies, and the bulk of that supply was prioritized for ten wealthy nations, particularly the U.S. Little, if any, vaccine, medicine or protective gear was expected to be ready, affordable and distributed for the bottom four billion poorest people on Earth.
The CFR meeting was convened at the predicted peak of the North American pandemic. Will the PCAST model have proven correct? Looking forward, what can be scientifically forecast regarding shifts in the virology and epidemiology of the H1N1 pandemic? What are the economic and financial impacts of the outbreak? What have been, and can be predicted to be, the foreign policy implications of the pandemic and related competition for medical and public health tools?

New Poll Indicates Mass Rejection Of Swine Flu Vaccine
62% of Americans will refuse jab to due to safety concerns

A new scientific poll has found that the vast majority of Americans have no intention of rolling up their sleeves for the H1N1 vaccine because they do not trust government assurances that the shot is safe.
In the week that the first H1N1 vaccines have become available, 62% of respondents to ABC News/Washington Post survey said they will probably not get vaccinated, while 30% said they are not confident in the shot's safety.
The poll shows that the vast majority of Americans would rather risk sickness than trust their government's advice of necessity, indicating that the $16 million federal propaganda effort is failing.
